At least that's what the early analysis seems to be. French terror experts I've heard on the radio, including Bruno Tertrais -- who is a good contact of the Embassy -- point out that the modus operandi of this group just doesn't seem to fit the Islamist terrorist mold. This was much more of a warning -- they told in advance exactly where the (old and unfused) dynamite was rather than just coming in and blowing everything up as a surprise, and the language in the communiqué, referring to the 'capitalist' grands magasins, also is making the analysts and authorities wonder if it isn't, in fact, some sort of far-LEFT French group trying to send a signal.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few days, as the authorities find (and reveal?) more information.
